The Cosmetology course requires 1600 hours of instruction. During this course of study you will learn the basic aspects of hair, nails, and skin. At the beginning of the freshman level, you will spend 200 to 300 hours devoted to the basic fundamentals of cosmetology and hair styling. Classes for theory and application are conducted daily. Students then practice their newly learned skill on mannequins and models. A student must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the subject matter by passing a written and practical freshman final exam to progress to the floor work.
At the intermediate and senior levels, students will continue to attend a minimum of 4 hours per week of theory class in addition to advanced classes and demonstrations. Students will be assigned “patrons” on a learning needs basis when not engaged in classroom activities. At around the 1400 hour point students will take a baby board exam, the curriculum for students enrolled in the cosmetology courses is as prescribed by California state board of Barbering & Cosmetology. The 1600 hour course can be completed in approximately 10 months.
